Attitude adjustment

Training

First off, Training is going outstanding. I think that the first year i tried to do way to much myself. Last year I think i did better, but wasn't nearly as organized as i'd like to have been. This year, so far, I think my organizational skills are better and that's leading to better training. That along with a more sequentially based progressive training schedule that Dave Roberts suggested. My biggest downfall this year has been, and will unfortunately continue to be, my attendance. I need to juggle a pretty busy schedule and have been missing way too many trainings. I hope to rectify this.

Responses

No excuses here. I haven't been there. I can say that my schedule has precluded me from responding, but that doesn't matter at the end of the day. Surprisingly enough I still do have the drive to be here, but I need to do everything I can to respond more

I'm not sure if attitude adjustment is an appropriate title, but I can't think of a better way to describe it. I need to refocus energy to the FD. I'm not sure why exactly I haven't been making as many as i did, but again. I'm going to do my best to be here more.

First round

So, we had not one, but 2 structure fires last week. I missed them both cause I turned off my minitor like a dork. I'm pretty torqued off, but it sounded like we did a pretty good job with them. Hopefully some of that is due to our training and leadership.

Training is going pretty well. I'm keeping up on contacting the instructors weeks in advance and I think that's helping. I still feel like I should have more qualifications to be the training officer, but Dave Roberts mentioned that when he was training officer, he had less experience than I did and Frank Maisaino told him that all he needs to do is keep on top of the schedule and the guys will fall in line. So far that's worked well this year.

I've continued the 5 minutes drills that Tim started before he left and the guys seem really receptive to them. Hopefully that will help out the the camaraderie.

New Year

Training

So, last year, I'd say i was fairly successful scheduling training, but this year I'm going to work on sticking tot he schedule and staying 2-4 weeks ahead as far as the planning is concerned. I think I'm doing a better job delegating, but I'm going to continue delegating as much as possible. I need to do a better job contacting the instructor a few weeks earlier tho.

Elections

They're in March. I'm not sure what to expect. We'll have a new Captain, but hopefully the rest of the officer core sticks around. I think that having a solid core will help the station immensely.

Responding

I was pretty light when it came to responding. I ended up over 50%, but not much over. This year will be different. I'm hoping to come in well over 60 and hopefully closer to 70 or 80%. With the new kid around it might be difficult, but I've made a dedication to the station and will balance everything accordingly.
